RAILWAYS, PORTS AND HARBOURS REGION

HISTORY
In March, 2006 as part of contemporary police operatinal requirements and the rejuvenation of the Railways and harbours sector of the economy, the Police Administration saw it impoerative to amend and revise Service Instruction No. 41 to meet the current operational exigencies. Consequently, Service Instruction No. 41 was amended in its entirety and replacd to create the Railways, Ports and Harbours Police Region. The Commander/Rlys, Ports & Harbours will report to the Inspector-General of Police through the appropriate HEMAB Member/Deputy IGP on matters that are within the purview of the relevant headquarters schedule officer or IGP.

In addressing policy issues affecting the unit, the Command/Rlys, Ports & Harbours will communicate directly to relevant Director-General with copies to Reginal Commanders concerned.

FUNCTIONS AND INITIATIVES
The Railways and Harbours Police is re-activated and designated Railways, Ports & Harbours Police Region (RPHPR). The unit shall be commanded by an SPO not below the rank of Asst. Commissioner of Police.

The Regional Headquarters of the RPHPR shall be sited at Tema Port to co-ordinate the Divisions, Districts and Stations under it. The RPHPR will be responsible for the following:

i) Protection of Railways, ports and Harbours authority properties.

ii) Preservation of law and order, and prevention and detection of crime within Railways, Ports and harbours precints.

iii) Prevention of thefts from Railways, Ports and Harbours premises and of goods in transit.

iv) Any other duties/responsibilities that will be assigned by the Inspector-General of Police.
