REGIONAL POLICE COMMITTEES (RPCs)
The Regional Police Committees represent the Police Council in the regions and perform the function of advising the PC on any matter relating to the administration of the Police Service in the regions, as well as other region-specific functions. The membership of the RPCs is as follows:
Chairman - Minister/Regional Minister
Members - Two most senior members of the Police Service in the Region
Members - A representative of each district in the region appointed by the District
Assembly
Member - A Lawyer practicing in the region, nominated by the Ghana Bar Association
Member - A representative of the Attorney General, and
Member - A representative of the Regional House of Chiefs
REPRESENTATION OF KEY STAKEHOLDERS (RPCs)
The following key stakeholders are represented on the Police Council;
- President/Government represented by Chairman of Council
- Minister of the Interior, as the oversight minister for Ghana Police Service (GPS)
- IGP, representing the executive of GPS
- Attorney General/Min. of Justice, as collaborating in prosecution of offenders
- Ghana Bar Association, legal counsels for defendants facing prosecution
- Traditional Chiefs/Leaders, traditional leaders of communities police by GPS
- GPS staff, senior and junior, representing workers’ interests
- Retired Police officer, representing Association of Retired Senior Police Officers (ARSPO)
