Panthers Unit - Accra
HISTORY
As a result of the emergence of Armed robbery and the subsequent repatriation of Ghanas living in Nigeria coupled with insecurity in the country, the Police Administration thus created the Panthers Unit in 1983 as special operational wing to undertake all operational duties within and outside the capital.
FUNCTIONS AND INITIATIVES
The functions of the Unit is to combat the threat of armed robbery by undertaking day and night patrols within the metropolis, provide protection for VIPPS, provide security at Embassies and undertake various forms of operational duties outside Accra. The unit is also to investigate all criminal cases that arise in the course of it duties and prosecute offenders at the law court.
