2010 YEAR FOR POLICE HOUSE CLEANSING
The Police Administration has devoted this year for serious image cleansing to flush out miscreants from the service.
Mr. Paul Tawiah Quaye, the Inspector General of Police, made this assertion when he attended end of year ‘WASSA’ and award ceremony as the guest of honour at the Central MTTU in Accra on Friday 15th January, 2010.
The IGP said that, intelligence units are picking information on personnel of the service including the MTTU and that appropriate sanctions will be meted out to defaulting personnel to serve as deterrent to others. The IGP charged the personnel to note that “it takes just a single act to damage the corporate image of the service but it will take the collective actions of all and over a period of time to clean that tarnished image. Let us win back our prestige and respect from the public through hard work, honesty and sincerity”. He congratulated selected personnel who were awarded with various prizes for their hard work.
He assured personnel that the Police High Command was working round the clock to secure the facilities, amenities and conditions that would boost their spirit and moral.
On his part ACP/Mr. Daniel Julius Avorgah, the Commander of the National MTTU, said the unit is faced with inadequate manpower, vehicles and communication equipment to facilitate patrols and supervision.
Mr. Avorgah said irrespective of that, the unit had generated GH¢397,646.40 through prosecutions of road traffic offences into the consolidated fund.
He regrettably gave the provisional accident statistics for 2009 as 12,565 cases out of which 1,587 resulted in deaths and 9,767 injuries and challenged his men to do more to help save lives on our roads.
