CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR MESSAGES FROM THE INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE (IGP) TO ALL PERSONNEL OF THE SERVICE

The Occasion of the Yuletide which is celebrated worldwide significantly marks the end of an existing year, and ushers in another. Traditionally, Goodwill messages are exchanged to re-assure ourselves of good fortunes for the coming Year. It is also a moment for stocktaking of our activities over the year passing – a moment of accountability.

2. Indeed, the year 2009 is drawing to a close, and I deem it appropriate to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Police Administration to wish all personnel a MERRY CHRISTMAS and PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.

3. The good works that you have done throughout the year, especially the fight against armed robbery in the country, have been observed by admirers and critics alike. It was therefore not surprising that His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, during the Graduation Ceremony of 42nd Cadet Officers Course commended all personnel for the achievement made in the fight against armed robbers. This singular achievement and many other successes chalked during the year, truly deserve the praises and commendation of the administration. I want to urge all personnel to keep up the dedicated Services and strive to work harder in the coming year.

4. In spite of these achievements, the Service is still marginalized with the perception of being the most corrupt institution in the country. Whether perceive or real, there is the urgent need to raise our image positively by exhibiting high professional conduct. Lapses that occasioned the performance of our duties at times should become a thing of the past. Allegations of corruption should also be disproved in the coming year. We should endeavour to perform our duties without tainting the image of the Service through bribery, corruption and unprofessional behavior. All and sundry should consider themselves the Inspector-General of Police in their little corners where they have been working, and work harder to earn a good reputation and redeem the image of the Service.

5. We are Police personnel, who have been mandated by the Constitution to enforce the law and protect life and property. We shall therefore be judge by our abilities to solve the security problems of society even though there are numerous challenges confronting the Service.

6. The Administration is doing everything possible to solve the most challenging problem currently confronting the Service-“accommodation”. The assurance is that the Government has approved our budget, for a number of uncompleted building projects to be completed in the ensuing year. It is therefore my hope, that in the very near future the acute accommodation problem confronting the Service shall also be a thing of the past. The welfare matters of personnel shall also be seriously considered, and all I demand of you, is to work harder to raise the image of the Service.

7. It is my wish that you let the Christmas season take away all the negative practices and other forms of vices that have plagued us at our workplaces, and enter the New Year with the resolution to perform our duty better than before.

8. On behalf of the Police Administration, I once again wish you a happy Christmas and a Prosperous New year.
