THE REMEMBRANCE DAY (11-11-PARADE) AT UPPER EAST REGIONAL CAPITAL BOLGATANGA: The Remembrance Day parade, also called the 11-11Day parade was held at Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional Capital. In attendance were all security services.
Delivering his speech, the Deputy Regional Minister Hon./Ms. Lucy Awuni , who stood in for the Regional Minister doff his hat for the Ex-Servicemen who were still alive today to observe the occasion, and said that, what they did was to free mankind from the bondage and enslavement.
She also said that what the Ex-servicemen did yester-years has been emulated by the Ghanaian troops in international peace-keeping, and has made the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police to be internationally recognized.
The Regional Minister said, with this feat attained by the veterans , it is necessary to instill a sense of discipline in the youth, since Armed-Robbery, teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, occultism, low productivity among others, have engulfed the youth of today. He charged the veterans to educate the youth on good morals, discipline, and hard work so that they can contribute to the societal progress and development of the nation.
The Regional minister bemoaned the “get –rich-quick” syndrome which is bedeviling the society and assured that, the government had promised the country of good governance based on principles of accountability, transparency, hard work and integrity.
Furthermore, the veterans were advised to hold regular meetings to discuss national issues for a better Ghana for all. The Regional Minister urged the veterans and all and sundry to make use of the numerous poverty alleviations fund to improve upon their lives.
Touching on the Bawku Conflict, the minister said, the Conflict has dented the image of the Upper East Region and that of the nation as a whole. He entreated the veterans to bring their rich experience to bear on the conflict so that, a lasting peace would be restored. He said for all known wars that have been fought, there was no winner and it was only peace accords and negotiations that had been signed. The war therefore should not be an albatross that will hinder the clock of progress.
