SIX NOTORIOUS CRIMINALS BUSTED AS POLICE INTENSIFIES WAR ON ARMED ROBBERY.
The Police made a major breakthrough in their fight against armed robbery war over the past week.
The breakthrough, which is the arrest of a gang of robbers who specialized in robbing bullion vans, snatching weapons and on two occasions killing of policemen is an achievement which is undoubtedly going to bring relief to the corporate world and the public alike.
In a press briefing, the Inspector General of Police Mr. Paul Tawiah Quaye, attributed the success chalked to prudent operational strategies such as the creation of an intelligence unit, re-introduction of the informant reward system, re-activation of traditional policing methods and capacity building of Police personnel, put in place by the Police.
Mr. Quaye continued that, ‘there has been a drastic reduction in the overall trend of armed robberies in the country and that about 80% of persons involved in robberies since the introduction of these operational strategies have been arrested’.
He concluded that the police will continue to strengthen the operational strategies adopted with the view to enhancing their effectiveness.
On her part, the Greater Accra Regional Commander DCOP/Madam Rose Bio-Atinga enumerated the various robberies committed by the gang as; the Madina Ecobank robbery-suspected to be Dropam, Ga rural bank robbery at Taifa, St. John’s Forex bureau robbery-Accra, Tema Iron and Paint Co.Ltd robbery-suspected to be Kofi Afoakwa, Spintex road snatching of Toyota pick-up, Bullion robbery at Lashibi-Klagon area, a Forex bureau robbery at Tema community one and Atala Co. Ltd. Achimota.
Madam Bio- Atinga finally attributed the success chalked to all especially informants, the Police Administration and all those who helped in one way or the other to arrest the gang.
